Fellowship through the IAI Examination Route
The India Fellowship Seminar: Revised Format
Effective for candidates seeking admission as Fellow Members through the IAI Examination Route, Fellowship now requires two components — completed in a fixed order.
About IFS
Purpose of the IFS
The India Fellowship Seminar is a requirement for admission as a Fellow Member of the Institute of Actuaries of India. It provides professionalism education addressing ethics, governance, and India-specific regulation and practice relevant to the actuarial profession, and serves as a platform for deliberation on the standards expected of a Fellow.
The requirements described on this page apply to candidates seeking Fellowship through the IAI Examination Route. Candidates should confirm their own applicability against the Institute's official Announcement dated 27 August 2026.
Requirements
A Two-Part Requirement
Under the revised format, an eligible candidate is required to complete both of the following. Neither component, on its own, satisfies the requirement.
Professionalism MCQ Examination
An online, multiple-choice examination conducted by the Institute. A candidate must successfully complete this examination before becoming eligible to register for the IFS.
- Must be completed before IFS registration
- Examination pattern and syllabus are set out under Professionalism MCQ Examination
- Schedule, fees and registration process to be notified separately
India Fellowship Seminar
A one-day seminar. Candidates attending for the purpose of admission as FIAI must remain present throughout its scheduled duration.
- Completion is determined solely by verified attendance
- There is no separate pass/fail assessment during the seminar
For the avoidance of doubt: successful completion of the Professionalism MCQ Examination does not, by itself, constitute completion of the IFS requirement, and attendance at the IFS does not, by itself, constitute successful completion of the revised requirements. A candidate seeking admission as FIAI through the IAI Examination Route must successfully complete both.
Completion of both requirements satisfies the applicable professionalism and seminar requirements only. Admission as FIAI remains subject to all other eligibility requirements prescribed by the Institute.

The validity of an existing Completion Certificate continues to be governed by the Institute's existing requirements:
- a. Any remaining examination subjects must be passed within a maximum of three subsequent consecutive examination diets following the IFS.
- b. Unless admitted as FIAI within twenty-four (24) months, counted from the month immediately succeeding the month of the IFS, the candidate must attend the IFS again and obtain a new Completion Certificate.
The requirement to complete the Professionalism MCQ Examination applies only to candidates who have not completed the 46th IFS, or an earlier IFS, prior to the effective date notified by the Institute.

I already hold a Completion Certificate from the 46th IFS or an earlier seminar. Do I need to take the MCQ Examination?
